Lots of data but no insight

Updated: May 30, 2023

“We’ve got lots of data, but we don’t know what to do with it”

We hear this a lot.

Many SMEs design their business around the operational model of selling and fulfilling an order, making it as straightforward as possible for the consumer to choose them above their competitors and ensure a great customer service experience.

Data is usually collected as a consequence of doing business and may include (but is not exclusive to):

  • Stock level data

  • Financial data

  • PII data for orders and fulfilment

  • Newsletter signups

  • Web analytics data showing how consumers are browsing on the site

  • Customer returns or complaints data

This data can be really useful for making strategic decisions about your business from product development to promotional and marketing activity.

But many SMEs don’t have a clear view of what data they have or how to use it. So this is often where we start - mapping where all the pockets of data sit, what GDPR compliance is present, how they interact with each other and how they are currently being used.

This provides the foundation to unlock the potential for using the data that has been collected across your business.

Once you know what data you have got, you can start asking questions to support your strategic decision making to drive growth.

Today’s Tip: Understand what data you have by mapping out your data landscape
